Hot Air 08:53

about

This was my first solo EP for Headspace Recordings, the label I ran in Cardiff with Raeph Powell in the late 90s. All three tracks were produced using a home studio setup in Raeph's spare room, on some very basic gear: an Atari ST with Cubase sequencing an Akai S2800, Novation BassStation and a Boss DS-330 synth module. Added to the fact that I was only 18 years old when these were made, it's not surprising that the production/mix is a bit rough.

The original DATs with the master recordings of these tracks were unfortunately lost in a house fire in 2009, so for this digital release I've had to remaster from 23-year-old vinyl. There's a little surface noise and distortion audible in a few places, but otherwise they've scrubbed up OK, I think.

Fun facts: the titles of the first two tracks are both anagrams of 'Headspace Recordings'; and the title of Hot Air is a nod to CiM's Cool Air, on the next Headspace release, as they have similar chord patterns.
